The Notts Forest BU10 Black are Manchester Cup 2011 Champions! The team completed their first tournament of the season by winning the Manchester Cup with 11 goals scored and 2 goals against.

During group play, they beat Encinitas Express Silver 3-1 and CV Manchester Gold 5-0. Their final match of group play was against Bonita Matrix, which was the team that they would see again in the Championship Match. In a close, competitive group play match, Notts Forest tied Bonita Matrix 1-1. During that game, Bonita matrix scored first, and Notts Forest were trailing at halftime 1-0. The team didn’t give up, and eventually scored in the last five minutes to tie the game at 1-1. The game was a preview of what the team would see in the final match.

Notts Forest and Bonita Matrix matched up in the final of the Manchester Cup later that day. The team had confidence going into the final against Bonita, because they had come back to tie the game in the previous match. Bonita had a very strong center midfielder, and stopping him would be key to prevent Bonita from scoring in the final. The two coaching points that coach Marvin Tarroja emphasized to the team before the final were 1) Make sure to mark Bonita’s center midfielder and defend him as a team and 2) Work together offensively to score. The team followed coach’s game plan to perfection, shutting down Bonita’s top player with good team defense. Notts Forest was able to score 2 goals in the final match. In the first half, the first goal was set up by a nice chip by Notts Forest’s sweeper over Bonita’s defense for Notts Forest’s forward to run onto and score. In the second half, Notts Forest scored their 2^nd goal. The second goal was a result of great marking by Notts Forest when Bonita had a goal kick. Bonita tried to get the ball to their best player, their center mid, and the Notts Forest forward anticipated the pass, jumped in front of the Bonita player, stole the ball and scored, making the score 2-0. Notts Forest would continue to play good defense the rest of the half and the game would end 2-0. Notts Forest BU10 Black were the Manchester Cup Champions!

What is amazing to note, is that this Notts Forest BU10 Black team are a 1^st year team and the Manchester Cup was their first ever competitive tournament. It looks like their season is off to a good start! Congratulations again, Notts Forest BU10 Black!
